Back from the dead…

Don’t mind me, I’ve just left my room for the first time in months since signing up to this ‘university’ thing. My facial hair is getting thicker and my head hair is getting thinner.

In more important news I’ve finally saved enough money from my barista job to buy my first lot of shares again. I’ve chosen the company Alumina Limited (asx: AWC) if you know a bit about shares, have a look at their 1 year stock chart and you’ll see why I’ve bought them at the price of $2.17 (They are now $2.22). In every stock market there’s a simple technique you can use called ‘technical analysis’ which I use to make stock market decisions. I did this with Alumina Limited where they have a ‘resistance low’ of $2.15 (This is where it probably won’t go any lower than that price). Once their stock price hits this figure it begins to trend back upwards and becomes more expensive. I watched it closely and when I saw the price go up, I bought in ASAP at $2.17. I’m expecting to make up to a 20% profit in 4 months based on the company’s stock price history. This profit is kinda slow for my liking but I have uni to focus on and I’ll only flip stocks rapidly when I have more trading volume and personal time available for research.

Lastly, our assignment 2, step 3…

I found it quite easy overall, making 1 small error and fixing it up shortly after I had entered all my financials in once again. My best recommendation is to spend a day watching Maria’s video and not doing anything and then the next day watch along again and do it with her. This way you can actually learn by watching, gaining a base understanding, and then secondly, learn by doing, gaining a deeper understanding. This way takes longer but I feel it makes the whole process much more smooth. I’m keen to begin writing my thoughts on this process and giving feedback on others step 3.

Cheers for reading. Have a good one.

Chapter 4 KCQ’s

I have a calcium deficiency from the amount of coffee I’ve consumed over the past few days. The one thing I’m certain on though is that I know what all that information meant. I mean, I didn’t at first, but Google and YouTube are your friends and when Martin starts talking about chocolate I had to go listen to a dude in a suit and tie explain it in front of a camera. Talking about chocolate is distracting and I would personally recommend removing all chocolate and alcohol related analogy’s off each chapter for the sake of student productivity and health. Anyways, below is my attached KCQ, I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did writing it.

Here we go again…

Something epic is going down

Chapter 4 KCQ beginnings…

“As I move into chapter 4, I’ve noticed things are starting to heat up. Being introduced to a googolplex of new terms by Martin in the ‘glossary of terms’, beads of sweat begin forming on my forehead. I shakily reach towards my coffee and as I investigate the half empty cup, I realise… I’m gonna need more coffee. My confidence begins to deteriorate ever so quickly, but at the last second before every shred of hope disappears to dust, I remember… I’m awesome. I mean of course, how could I forget? Perhaps it’s the epic orchestral music I’m listening to, but who cares, I will not faulter as this is only the beginning, I remind myself. I must do this for the good of humanity, for the good… of my grade.”

The Bluescope Story

I’ve spent the majority of this afternoon finally looking into my company in more detail, as it’s what I’ve left last in my steps 3-6. I’ve just finished watching a few Bluescope promoted videos and have stumbled across an inspiring overview that’s surely emptied the pockets of many investors sitting on the fence as to whether to purchase a share of the company. With the uplifting background music and the clear spoken words of the commentator, I almost want to buy some shares as well! If you’re not sure what Bluescope Steel are all about, they are a steel manufacturing company which operates in 17 different countries with an astonishing 16,000 staff members.

A few interesting things I’ve learned about the company. Firstly, they’ve actually been an international brand for a very long time; over 100 years. They’ve partnered up with massive companies such as Coca Cola & Walmart to be in charge of building their new retail branches, warehouses & factories which will definitely add to the consistency of revenue. Also mentioned in the video, having unique intellectual property rights to building designs which speeds up the process of construction. This would give them a massive leg up on their competition. Lastly, it’s very interesting I’ve been given this company as I spent the last 18 months of my life before uni as a construction worker. Many of the products manufactured by Bluescope would have been purchased by my contractors for me and my workmates to create the massive structures (bridges, high rises, coal wash plantations etc) that I built in my time on construction sites.

I’ve attached the link to the video below if you would like to see a short overview of what my company is all about. Who knows, you may end up being a part-owner of the company once you’ve watched it as well.

A Storm Is Coming

As we move into our 3rd week of the year, I’m beginning to feel the pressure building. Perhaps it’s just the baked beans I ate this morning.

Either way, University is starting to move into full swing and if anyone isn’t foreseeing the near future I simply feel sorry for you. Get ahead on your work because it’ll definitely begin creeping up on you like Slender Man would in a foggy Norwegian forest.

My company Bluescope Steel has been an absolute joy to learn more about. As I finish up my financial spreadsheet I’m learning more about how positive the realities of their business have unfolded over the previous 4 years. A great company with great aspirations to grow and develop into more countries and make an even bigger name for themselves.

Although I’m advertising Martins competition, I’ve also thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the MGMT11109 unit as well. I’ve taken delight in the fact the some of the information I’m learning about the science behind successful management is translating into the science behind a successful company such as Bluescope Steel.

All in all, I’m keen to learn more. I’m considering starting up my own business within the next 12 months and all the knowledge I’m gaining is pumping up my confidence like big muscles would a gym junkie.

Thanks for reading & stay sassy.

Our First Step

Our first assessment was due just 1 hour ago & boy am I glad to have finished it, considering that over the past 7 years I haven’t willingly written something down without being forced to do so beforehand. (Carpal Tunnel is a great excuse, use it sparingly)

There are so many questions to be asking ourselves right now in regards to our prior learning experiences & abilities, plus the fact that it turns out Accounting is a little more interesting than I previously gave it credit for. Perhaps this stubborn individual will come around eventually, but until that comes to complete fruition, I will be moving on to further research my company Bluescope Steel for our next steps.

Happy trails campers.

Day 1:

As I sit at the back of the bus like the cool kids do (obviously where I belong), I hear Simply Irresistible by Robert Palmer from the speakers and can’t help but think of myself, sitting at the back seat, winking to all the old ladies as they flash their pensioner cards to the bus driver. I can tell it worked because they’re all sitting right up the front, too nervous to approach me and my alluring gaze. Anyways, this one isn’t Accounting related but you get to enjoy what’s going through my head right now.

Have a productive day and keep being saucy.
